Fudge has been manufactured from an unique Guernsey Cream Fudge recipe for at least four generations. During the Eighties 'The Channel Islands Confectionary Company Limited' was established to formalise the manufacture and marketing of the products.
At that time the directors already owned and operated the 'Hanging Strawberry Farm' which is one of Guernsey's leading tourist attractions incorporating various franchised operations including a gift shop, coppersmith, summer boutique, play areas, Gardens, and Café etc.
The fudge manufacturing facility was set up within the complex as an added tourist attraction and visitors were able to watch the fudge being cooked in the traditional Victorian style and the fudge was sold loose by weight over the counter.
In 1990 the packaging was developed and a small wholesale operation formed to operate within Guernsey to develop a retail market. This market has expanded over the years and the product sells from a variety of outlets.
In 1991 the product was adopted by a leading Guernsey confectionery wholesaler and the market extented to other Channel Islands. Both the wholesale and retail operations have grown steadily over the years. |
